Is my recording uploaded?

Only its sound. Your browser opens the file on your device and sends the sound in short pieces over an encrypted connection to our servers, where it is turned into text straight away. The video and the file’s details never leave your device, and nothing is stored.

Why do I need an account?

Turning speech into text runs on our servers and costs us money, so it needs a free account. That keeps the tool fast and free of abuse.

Is it free?

Yes, with a free account. For longer recordings, such as meetings and lectures, Premium takes recordings up to 2 hours.

Which files can I use?

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus and FLAC recordings, and MP4, MOV and WebM videos: files up to 200 MB on the free plan and 500 MB with Premium.

Can it translate into English?

Yes. Choose English under Write the text in, and speech in any language it knows comes back as English text.

Can I make subtitles for a video?

Yes. Download the SRT or VTT file and add it to your video on YouTube, in a video editor or in a video player.

How accurate is it?

Clear speech with little background noise gives the best results. Music, people talking over each other and loud noise lower the accuracy, so read the transcript before you use it.
